I think we’re safe to say summer’s here and we can all start unpacking our summer gear. Sunglasses, check. Shorts and sandals check. Crochet cropped top, check. Right?
If the answer is no, don’t panic. You could whip one of these out with plenty of time left to get a new tan line from it at the beach before it’s too late.

I’m always getting corrected by people on what design is called what, but I just design what I like and share it. So I’m just calling this one a crochet cropped top and leaving it at that.
Is it a tank top? A cropped tank? I think so but I’ll let you all decide what you want to call it.
This crochet cropped top pattern is made with mostly dc and a little decreasing. I added some picot around the arm hole edges as well. Sleeves? I think you know what I mean by armholes, whatever the technical term is. 🤣

I used Ice Yarns organic baby cotton for this crochet cropped top project. If you’ve been around here before, you’ll know it’s one of my staples, especially for summer projects.
Feel free to use whatever yarn you prefer in #3 light /DK weight yarn, just be sure to check your gauge before you start this crochet cropped top.

JOINING THE CROCHET CROPPED TOP PIECES TOGETHER
SEW THE SHOULDER SEAMS TOGETHER
Place your panels right side facing down. We’ll sew on the wrong side, using the tails that we left earlier. Use which ever method you prefer to sew (Both sides are sewn the same). Check picture below

SEW THE SIDE SEAMS TOGETHER
Fold your top in half at the shoulder seam with the right sides facing each other and we will sew on the wrong side. Cut a new strand of yarn 16-20 inches long. Start sewing from the bottom up to row 12( 12, 13, 13, 14, 14 ). I recommend trying it on at this point to make sure you’re happy with the fit and adjusting if necessary, then weave all the ends (Both sides are sewn the same). Check picture below

CROCHET AROUND THE NECK HOLE EDGE
Turn your top right side out, we’ll crochet on the right side in the round.
Add a new yarn at the corner of the shoulder seam, ch 1, 3 sc into each sp down until you reach the right bottom corner, 1 sc into next st and each st util you reach the left corner, 3 sc into each sp up until you reach the shoulder seam, 1 sc into each st around the back neck line, then cut the yarn and weave the end. Check picture below

CROCHET AROUND THE ARM HOLE EDGES
We’ll crochet on the right side. For the arm hole edges, we’ll crochet into the end of each row (sp for reference). Add new yarn into the armpit corner then, ch 1, *1 sc, picot, 1 sc* all into first sp, REP from *TO* into each sp around the arm hole, cut the yarn and weave all the ends. Check picture below
