It’s been another week of blistering heat here in MN so I’m forced to make another cute summer top crochet pattern.
Luckily, the tank top I was planning on releasing this weekend became a nightmare to figure out the sizing, so I had to dig deep into the creative vault.
What I ended up with was this awesome lacy summer top crochet pattern idea that my husband drew on a note pad while we were having coffee. I was really stressing about that tank top.
It’s funny how the most amazing things can come from the most trying situations. I hope everyone enjoys this one. It’s gonna look amazing on you this summer 🙂
This summer top crochet pattern was made using a #2 sport weight cotton yarn. I always prefer cotton or natural fiber blends for summer garments, but feel free to use any #2 sport weight yarn you prefer. Just be sure to check your gauge before you start.
This free written lacy summer top crochet pattern is available in US women’s sizes XS-XXL. If you’d like to support this blog and have the full, printable PDF version with detailed photo instructions, it’s available to purchase on my Etsy store as well as Ravelry and Love Crochet.
There’s also a two part video tutorial to accompany the lacy summer top crochet pattern as usual on my YouTube channel, which I’ve linked down below.

*While the front and back panels are made the same, you only need to leave the tails on one panel.
Sew the front and back panels together
Sew the shoulders and tops of the sleeves together
Place your panels right side facing down. We’ll sew on the wrong side, using the tails that we left earlier. Use which ever method you prefer to sew. ( Check picture below )

Sew the side seams and the bottom sleeves together
Fold your top in half at the shoulder seam right side facing each other, we’ll sew on the wrong side. Cut a new strand of yarn 50-70 inches long, enough to sew the side and the sleeve. Start sewing from the bottom up to the side seam until you reach the armpit and continue sewing the sleeve side seam until you reach the end of the sleeve, cut the yarn and weave the end. ( Check picture below )

crochet around the neck hole edge ( Optional )
Turn your work right side out, we’ll crochet on the right side. Add a new yarn at the corner, *1 sc, picot, 1 sc* All into same sp rep from *to* into each 1 ch sp around and when you reach the shoulder/the dc just treat them like 1 ch sp, cut the yarn and weave the end. ( check picture below )

Crochet around the sleeve cuff edges ( Optional )
For the sleeve cuff edges, we’ll crochet into the end of each row ( sp for reference ). Add a new yarn any where you like, *1 sc, picot, 1 sc* All into same sp rep from *to* into each sp around, cut the yarn and weave all the end. ( Check picture below )

Hello! I'm a fan of your patterns and I love this one! I already want to start it but I can't understand the gauge you used, is it 18 chains long and rows 2 to 5 by 8 and a half turns? I'm so confused sorry haha

This pattern is in a multiple of 6+3 chains, so that means you can make the chain as long as you like, just make sure it's in a multiple of 6 ch +3 ch at the end. Then follow the pattern from row 1 to row 13. When you measure the gauge for the width, you're going to measure on the dc row. The length is the pattern that you just made. Hope that makes sense!

I made this in a medium but added rows for length due to the sleeves adding to length. I ended up cutting some rows off! All in all it was a nice pattern and easy to follow (especially the video tutorial). I made it in black so it was really hard to see what I was doing, especially at night.

Thank you Karen! I love black but I don't usually use it for that reason, it's tough to see in the video tutorials. Sounds like you did some nice work, thanks for watching and for the kind feedback.

Hi. I am making this crochet lacy summer top. I am confused on the sleeve. In your example of the small it looks like you have way less rows than you said to do. For the small you show the pattern 4 times which would be 16 rows before starting sleeve. On the pattern you say total of 28 rows for small before starting neck. I am making size medium and pattern says to do a total of 32 rows which is almost 8 times of the pattern of 4 rows. The sleeve is way too big if I do this.

For size small, before you start the sleeve, you need to repeat row 2 to row 5, 2 more times and that'll be a total of 13 rows (start count from row 1). I'm not sure where you get 4 times from? Mabey you got the it confused with different pattern? I've looked at it but I'm not really sure, if you have some info on how you arrived there I can try to clarify more.
