Hey everybody, I don’t know about you but I’m MELTING here in MN this summer. There’s only so much you can do in this kind of weather to stay cool. Nobody wants to stay indoors any more than we have to these days, and you can’t just walk around naked. So, I offer this easy crochet crop top as a solution.
The shoulder straps are what I think you’d call spaghetti straps, but I’m terrible at knowing the proper fashion terminology. They’re just i-cords. That’s right, the i-cord has made another appearance. If you missed last week’s I-Cord tutorial, it might be handy to go back and give it a look.

This crochet crop top is beginner friendly as usual. It’s a super easy project, doesn’t require a ton of yarn and will work up fast enough to be wearing one at next weeks socially distanced barbecue, or whatever you’re into this crazy summer.
I used the same Ice Yarn Organic Baby Cotton that I used on these beginner friendly crochet shorts. They make a SUPER cute outfit together. I highly recommend making the full set. I included some photos so you see what I mean.
I’m loving this top. Hope you all enjoy. Stay cool! 😎

Row 37( 39, 41, 45, 47, 51 ) – Row 48( 50, 54, 58, 62, 66 ) Color A : REP Row 2
The end of row 48( 50, 54, 58, 62, 66 ), cut the yarn and leave 18-26 inches long tail
Straps ( Make 2 )
For the straps I used an I-cord, but if you’d prefer a different option you can make a chain about 12-14″ long and then slip stitch back across. Just make sure to leave a 6-8″ tail before you start the chain and leave another 6-8″ tail when you finish the strap.
Row 1 : Leave a 6-8 inch long tail, then ch 3. Insert hook into second ch from hook, YO pull up a loop. Insert hook into next ch, YO pull up a loop. Insert hook into next ch, YO pull up a loop. Total of 3 loops on hook ( Check picture below )

Row 2 : Remove two loops on hook ( Make sure not to lose them ). With remaining loop on hook, YO pull up a loop. Insert hook into next loop, YO pull up a loop. Insert hook into next loop, YO pull up a loop. Total of 3 loops on hook ( Check picture below )

Repeat row 2 until your strap reaches about 12( 12.5, 13, 13.5, 14, 14.5 ) inches long. Cut the yarn and leave about a 6-8 inch long tail.
Joining the crochet crop top panels together
Lay the back and front panels together right side facing each other. We’ll sew on the wrong side. Begin joining by sewing the side seems using the long tail that we left earlier. I used a yarn needle but you can sew using any method you prefer. Check picture below

Sew the Straps to Your Crop Top
Turn your top right side out. Using the tail we left on the I-cord straps earlier, I sew right into the color B section on the front and back. Repeat on both sides. Now just weave all the ends and you’re all set!
