I made this crochet sweater pattern with the added buttons and pockets in mind, but they are certainly optional.

The links below are for the materials I used for my project and some may be affiliate links. I make a small commission, however it makes shopping easier, doesn’t affect the price and helps to support these free patterns and tutorials. Thanks for stopping by 🙂

Row 3 – 10 rep row 2
*The end of row 10 cut the yarn leave 20″ tails for sewing the pocket to the sweater
Sew the sleeves to the top
Take the body panel and 2 sleeve panels,
Lay your top correct side facing down. Place your sleeves
correct side facing down and start sewing on the wrong side
with your tail the you left earlier . The shoulder part of the main panel should
be in the middle of the sleeve panel and even on both sides.

Sew the sweater together
Fold your cardigan in half at the shoulder part. Cut a new
strand of yarn 50-70 inches long, enough to sew the bottom
and the sleeves. Start sewing from the bottom up to the
side seam until you reach the armpit and continue sewing
the sleeve side seam till you reach the bottom of the sleeve,
cut the yarn and weave the end.
( both sides sewn the same)

Sew the pockets
The placement of the pockets is optional, I just to sewed them closer to the bottom. You can sew them in the middle or higher if you like.

Collar
Turn your cardigan right side out. Start the collar by working
from the bottom right corner
Work all the way up and around the neck, back down to the left
corner. We will turn back the other direction and keep repeating
Row 1 : Add new yarn into the right front panel, ch 1 ( do not count as a st ), 1 hdc into same ch st, 1 hdc into each st around till you reach the left front panel. Total of 120 st *If you have a few more or less st it’s ok.

Row 2 : Turn, ch 1 ( do not count as a st ), 1 hdc into each st around. Total of 120 st
Row 3 – 7 rep row 2
The end of row 7 cut the yarn and weave the end
Add the buttons
The buttons are optional, as is the placement of the buttons. If you want more or less buttons, it’s easy to adjust since you won’t need to create buttonholes. You will simply button them into the hdc on the other collar. Just be sure that they line up in the same line of stitches so they’re even.
