It’s time to put away our heavy winter coats and finally put on our cute spring sweater hoodies! Wait, you don’t have a cute sweater hoodie yet??Don’t worry, I’ve got you 🙂
This spring inspired sweater hoodie turned out beautifully and I can’t wait to share the pattern with you.
The printable PDF version, including sizes XS-XXL is available for purchase on my Etsy here, as well as Ravelry here. The Free pattern and video tutorial featured below are for size small. For anyone that would like to try to make the pattern for a custom size of their own, I’ve included the gauge below.
Materials
- Lion brand jean yarn weight 4 yarn 246 yards / 225 meter for each skein
- Colors picture (color A vintage = 6 skeins) ( color B capri = 1 skein)
- Crochet hook size 4mm
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
- Stitch marker

- ch = chain
- dc = double crochet
- sp = space
- rep = repeat

Notes :
- In this pattern I made size small. If you want different sizes XS – XXL purchase on Etsy or Ravelry
- This sweater is made in 5 separate pieces and then sewn together. The hood and the collar are added later
- The turning chain in every row of the panels doesn’t count as a stitch, make sure to pull up those loops to the same height as a double crochet stitch
- You can make your sweater as long as you like just keep adding more rows
- This sweater you can be made in 1 solid color if you like

Gauge unblocked : 16 dc x 8 rows = 4″
Size : Us women’s small
Measurement : 17″ width x 22 ” length (These measured before blocking/washing) *keep in mind that your sweater will stretch out a few inches after block/wash it.

Back panel ( Make 1 )
Row 1 ( ws ) color A : ch 69, 1 dc into second ch from hook and each ch st across. Total of 68 st
Row 2 ( rs ) color A : Turn, ch 1 ( do not count as a st ), 1 dc into each st across. Total 68 st
Row 3 – 44 rep row 2 (color A)*The end of row 44 cut the yarn and weave the end
Front panel ( Make 2 )
Row 1 ( ws ) color A : ch 35, 1 dc into second ch from hook and each ch st across. Total of 34 st
Row 2 ( rs ) color A : Turn, ch 1 ( do not count as a st ), 1 dc into each st across. Total of 34 st
Row 3 – 44 rep row 2 (color A)*The end of row 44 cut the yarn and leave about 15″ tail for 1 of the panel only
Sleeves ( Make 2 )
Row 1 ( ws ) color A : ch 35, 1 dc into second ch from hook and each ch st across. Total of 34 st
Row 2 ( rs ) color A : Turn, ch 1 do not count as a st ), 1 dc into each st acros. Total of 34 st
Row 3 – 8 rep row 2 (color A)
Row 9 ( ws ) color A : Turn, ch 1 ( do not count as a st ), 2 dc into first st, 1 dc into each st till you have 1 st left, 2 dc into last st. Total of 36 st
Row 10 ( rs ) color A : Turn, ch 1 ( do not count as a st ), 1 dc into each st across. Total of 36 st
Row 11 – 12 rep row 10 (color A). Total of 36 st

*The end of row 40 cut the yarn leave 30″ tail for 1 of the panel only
Joining the pieces together
Sew the back panel into 2 front panels
Take the back and 2 front panel, place them together with correct side facing each other and start sewing on the wrong side sew along top of the shoulder area together using method of choice. Sew 20 stitches together on each side ( check picture below )

Sew the sleeves to the top
Lay your top correct side facing down. Place your sleeves correct side facing down and start sewing on the wrong side with your tail again. The shoulder seam of the main panel should be in the middle of the sleeves and even on both sides. ( check picture below )
Sew the sweater together
Fold your sweater in half a t the shoulder seam. Cut a new strand of yarn 50 – 60 inches long, enough to sew the bottom side and sleeve. Start sewing from the bottom up to the side seam until you reach the armpit and continue sewing the sleeve side seam until you reach the cuff of the sleeve. Cut the yarn and weave the end. ( check picture below )

Hood
Turn your sweater right side out. We will start crochet the hood staring with the top corner of the right front panel and continue around the neck to the left front panel corner. We will turn back the other direction and keep repeating.
Row 1 ( rs ) color A : Add new yarn at the right front panel, ch 1 ( do not count as a st ), 1 dc into same ch st, 1 dc into each st around the neck area to the left front panel. Total of 60 st

Row 2 ( ws ) color A : Turn, ch 1 ( do not count as a st ), 1 dc into each st across. Total of 60 st
Row 3 – 29 rep row 2 (color A) *The end of row 29 cut the yarn and leave 15″ tail for sew the top of the hood
Sew the to of the hood ( check picture below )

Collar
For the collar we will start crochet on the right side. Start crochet from the right front panel at bottom corner. Work all the way up and around the hood and back down to the left front panel at the bottom corner. We will turn back the other direction and keep repeating. Crochet into the end of each row of the front panels and the hood ( sp for reference ) *When you reach the top of the hood seam treat it like a 1 sp
Row 1 ( rs ) color B : Add new yarn at the right front panel at the bottom corner, ch 3 ( count as 1 dc ), *sk next sp, 1 vpf into next sp*, rep from *to* till you reach the left front panel at the bottom, 1 dc into the last st at the corner. Total of 73 vpf st ( check picture below )




Row 2 ( ws ) color B : Turn, ch 3 ( count as 1 dc ), 1 vpf into each 1 ch sp across. Total of 73 vpf st ( check picture below )


Row 3 – 5 rep row 2 (color B) *The end of row 5 cut the yarn and weave the end

I love your sweater it is so pretty thank you for the patten .I never made a sweater yet but im learning i hope i can make it.Im from south Africa i dont know what u pay for patten as we dont work with ponds .I love the patten thank you .You so sweet person lovely to thanks for your tutorial .I dont know how to make a sleave will try .thank you .
