Did I mention how excited I am for summer? For one thing, I get to make cute tops. I love designing sweaters, but I need some summer in my life right now! It’s time to crochet a tank top for me and a free crochet tank top pattern for you!

Materials

- Bernat softee baby cotton weight 3 light/DK 244 yards/232 meter for each skein
- Color pictured- Feather gray
- Crochet hook size 5 mm
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
- Stitch markers
Stitches used & code
- ch = chain
- st = stitch(es)
- hdc = half double crochet
- dc = double crochet
- sk = skip
- sp = space
- rep =repeat
- rs = right side
- ws = wrong side
Notes:
- This pattern made as XS( S, M, L, XL, XXL )
- The Front and back panel are made the same
- In the pictures I have demonstrated with size S
Gauge unblocked: 15 hdc x 10 rows = 4″
Sizes and measurements (These are measured before blocking/washing. Keep in mind that your tank top will stretch out a couple inches after you block/wash it)
- XS = 13.33″ Width x 15.4″ Length (290 yards of yarn)
- S = 14.4″ Width x 16.6″ Length (330 yards of yarn)
- M = 16. 53 Width x 17.8″ Length (370 yards of yarn)
- L = 17.6 Width x 19″ Length (410 yards of yarn)
- XL = 19.73″ Width x 20.2″ Length (450 yards of yarn)
- XXL = 20.8″ Width x 21.4″ Length (480 yards of yarn)

Here’s the free tank top pattern ( made in panels, make 2 )
Row 1 ( rs ): ch 51( 55, 63, 67, 75, 79 ), 1 hdc into second ch from hook and each ch st across. Total of 50( 54, 62, 66, 74, 78 ) st
Row 2 ( ws ): Turn, ch 1 ( do not count as a st ), 1 hdc into each st across. Total of 50( 54, 62, 66, 74, 78 ) st
Row 3 – 22( 24, 26, 28, 30, 32 ) rep row 2
*If you want a longer top or even a dress, just keep adding more rows before we separate the upper left and right side.
Upper left side ( when you wear it )
Row 23( 25,27, 29, 31, 33 ) : Turn, ch 1 ( do not count as a st ), sk first st, 1 hdc into each of next 22( 24, 28, 30, 34, 36 ) st, sk next st, 1 hdc into next st. Total of 23( 25, 29, 31, 35, 37 ) st
Row 24( 26, 28, 30, 32, 34 ) : Turn, ch 1 ( do not count as a st ), sk first st, 1 hdc into each st until you have 2 st left, sk next st, 1 hdc into last st. Total of 21( 23, 27, 29, 33, 35 ) st
Row 25( 27, 29,31, 33, 35 ) – 31( 34, 37, 40, 43, 46 ) rep row 24( 26, 28, 30, 32, 34 ) *In each row you will decrease 2 st(1 st on each side)
*The end of row 31( 34, 37, 40, 43, 46 ) you will have 7( 7, 9, 9, 11, 11 ) st left
Row 32( 35, 38, 41, 44, 47 ) : Turn, ch 4 ( count as 1 dc and 1 ch ), sk next st, 1 dc into next st, *ch 1, sk next st, 1 dc into next st*, rep from *to* until the end . Total of 4( 4, 5, 5, 6, 6 )dc and 3( 3, 4, 4, 5, 5 )ch sp (check picture below) *In the pictures I have demonstrated with size S

Row 33( 36, 39, 42, 45, 48 ) : Turn, ch 4 ( count as 1 dc and 1 ch ), 1 dc into the dc st, *ch 1, 1 dc into the dc st*, rep from *to* until the end.(the last st is a third ch st). Total of 4( 4, 5, 5, 6, 6 )dc and 3( 3, 4, 4, 5, 5 )ch sp ( check picture below ) *In the pictures I have demonstrated with size S

Row 34( 37, 40, 43, 46, 49 ) – 36( 39, 42, 45, 48, 51 ) rep row 33( 36, 39, 42, 45, 48 ) *The end of row 36( 39, 42, 45, 48, 51 ) cut the yarn leave 6″( 6″, 8″, 8″, 10″,10″ ) tail
Upper right side ( when you wear it )
Begin adding new yarn and repeat the same pattern when you make the upper left side. ( Check picture below ) *In the pictures I have demonstrated with size S.



Joining the pieces together
Take the back and the front panel, place them together with correct sides facing each other, using the tail that we left earlier, start sewing on the wrong side using method of choice.
Fold your top in half at the shoulder seam with the right side facing each other and we will sew on the wrong side. Cut a new strand of yarn 20-50 inches long, enough to sew the bottom up to the armpit where we began making the upper left and right side. ( check picture below ) *In the picture I have demonstrated with size S.

Hi Carina, You can find all those details in the notes, it's 330 yards for a size s, the number of skeins will depend on the brand you use.
