Something that happens a lot in the hand made fiber game, is that you make a project that you’re so excited about until you actually try it on. Then you realize the design was fun to make and looked cool in the pictures, but it isn’t QUITE something you’d wear out of the house. This crochet shrug is NOT one of those projects 😉

This crochet shrug pattern turned out so cozy and comfy but at the same time, IMO, very sheik and fashionable 😁 The best part is it can be worn several different ways to fit your style, the season or your wardrobe.
It can be worn as you normally would, of course.
You can just adjust the cuff a bit and viola, you have a crochet shrug with a collar.

The coolest part of this crochet shrug pattern is when you turn it upside down, it wears like a totally different garment. Almost like a sweater shawl/wrap? Call it what you will, I LOVE the look.
You can pin it with a brooch and get extra fancy with this option if you’d like.

I used Lion Brand Basic Stich Anti Pilling #4 Medium Weight Yarn for this one, along with some Lion Brand Go for Faux.
If you’re not into the shrug this week, maybe you’d like a sweater? Check out some of my other free patterns below.

REP Row 2 and Row 3 : 21( 22, 23, 24 ) more times. You’ll have a total of 45( 47, 49, 51 ) rows
The end of row 45( 47, 49, 51 ) cut the yarn and leave 14-20″ long tail
SEW THE SIDES TOGETHER
Fold your panel in half (first row to the last row) with correct side facing each other. Use the tail that we left earlier for sewing the first side. Start sewing on the wrong side from the bottom up, using sewing method of choice. Sew 14( 14, 14, 14 ) rows on each side together and leave 17( 19, 21, 23 ) rows for the arm hole. Sew the other side exactly the same, except you need to cut and add a new piece of yarn (14-20 inches) to sew. ( check picture below )

COLLAR
Turn your work right side out and fold it like you see in the picture shown below. We’ll add 2 stitch markers at the bottom corners, add the first stitch marker into the left bottom corner, then add the second stitch marker into the right bottom corner. We’ll skip 42( 44, 46, 48 ) st in between those two stitch markers. We’re going to crochet from the left bottom corner up and around the neck and back down to the right bottom corner. We’ll turn back the other direction and keep repeating. Check picture below

Row 1 : Add new yarn into the left bottom corner, then ch 2 ( do not count as a st ), 1 dc into the same st, 1 dc into next st and each st until you reach the right bottom corner. Total of 182( 192, 202, 212 ) st (If you have a few less or more st it’s ok) Check picture below

Row 2 : Turn, ch 2 ( do not count as a st ), 1 dc into each st across. Total of 182( 192, 202, 212 ) st. Check picture below

Row 3 – Row 10( 10, 10, 10 ) : REP Row 2. Check picture below

CROCHET AROUND THE BODY EDGE
For the body edge we’re going to us the faux fur yarn. Add new yarn into the left bottom corner then ch 1, 1 sc into each st around the body, including the bottom as well.
CROCHET AROUND THE ARM HOLE EDGE
For the arm hole edges, we’re going to use the faux fur yarn again. Add new yarn into the side seam, then ch 1, 2 sc into each sp/the end of each row around, cut the yarn and weave the all ends. Repeat the same on the other side.
