The crochet pants pattern we’ve been waiting for!

If you follow me on social media, you’ve probably watched with anticipation as I worked out the design and tutorial for this crochet pants pattern. Well we did it! I’m soo thrilled to finally share it with you all!

It’s not the first of my crochet pants patterns, but it is by far the best yet. My first pattern for crochet pants were made with velvet yarn and a drawstring. They were funky and fun looking but not super wearable due to the weight and stretch.

This current crochet pants pattern was actually inspired by an earlier crochet skirt design that some of you will recognize.

This crochet pants pattern uses the same stitch design as the skirt did, only I used 2 colors this time instead of three. I just love them!

I used lindy chain fingering weight yarn, which is one of my top favorites. It’s a blend of pima cotton and linen, which means it’s a perfect material for light, durable and very wearable garments. It lasts a long time and just gets better with age and wear.

Speaking of wearable, I added a new trick I’ve never tried before by crocheting an elastic band into the waist band. I’m so impressed with how well it works! You’re all gonna love this project for that trick alone.

Adding the elastic band into the pants waistband

How to cut the elastic band: This is depending on how you like them to fit, and there are a lot of different kinds of elastic bands out there, but here’s my recommendation.

  • Light elastic band cut 19″(21″, 23″, 25″, 28″, 32″)
  • Medium elastic band cut 21″(23″, 25″, 27″, 30″, 34″)
  • Heavy duty elastic band cut 25″(27″, 29″, 31″, 34″, 38″)

Keep in mind that the elastic band is going to hold up the pants, so cut it shorter if you need too. After that you can sew the elastic band ends together. You can sew it by hand or sewing machine.

Attaching the elastic into the crochet pants waistband:

Notes:

  • Hold 2 strands of color A together, it will cover the elastic band much better then just 1 strand
  • We’re going to crochet into the end of each row of the waistband (sp for reference)

Step 1: Make slip knot, insert hook into the loop and bring your elastic band and hold it on your left hand

Step 2: Insert hook into any sp of the waistband you prefer. Make sure to go under the elastic band and the working yarn should be above the elastic band. YO pull up a loop, YO pull through all loops on hook (Basically we’ve just made a sc)

Step 3: Insert hook into next sp. Make sure to go under the elastic band and the working yarn should be above the elastic band. YO pull up a loop, YO pull through all loops on hook (Basically we’ve just made a sc)

REP step 3 around the waistband, cut the yarn and weave all the ends (I used the invisible join). You should have a total of 160(168, 176, 184, 192, 200) st because you have 160(168, 176, 184, 192, 200) rows of the pants waistband. Check picture below
