The season is almost upon us to scramble for crochet gift ideas for all our loved ones, but don’t worry: I’m going to give you a few free ideas like this crochet coaster pattern with plenty of time to spare.
You could work up this crochet coaster pattern fast enough to make the whole family a set of their own and still be able to make some of my other patterns before the holidays.
The best part about these kinds of projects is you can finally find something practical to do with your scrap yarn! I do love some crochet scrap yarn projects. I produce a lot of scrap yarn, as you could imagine.

These are pretty straight forward double crochet and picot stitches, which are easy to learn if you don’t already know them.

Materials
- I used two colors of Lion Brand Comfy Cotton Blend #3 Light/DK weight yarn
- Color A (Whipped cream) = 15 yards
- Color B (Chai latte) = 10 yards
- 3 mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Yarn needle

Stitches Used & Code (US Term)
- ch = chain
- st = stitch(es)
- sc = single crochet
- dc = double crochet
- sk = skip
- sp = space
- sl st = slip stitch
- REP = repeat
- Picot = ch 3, sl st into the back bump of the first ch that you did
- ” = inches

CROCHET COASTER PATTERN WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS
Round 1 (Color A): Make a magic ring then, ch 1 (do not count as a st), 12 dc into the same ring sp, sl st into the first dc. Total of 12 dc
Round 2 (Color A): ch 2 (do not count as a st), 2 dc into each st around, sl st into the first dc. Total of 24 dc
Round 3 (Color A): ch 2 (do not count as a st), 2 dc into first st, 1 dc into next st, *2 dc into next st, 1 dc into next st* REP from *TO* around, sl st into the first dc. Total of 36 dc
Round 4 (Color A): ch 2 (do not count as a st), 2 dc into first st, 1 dc into each of next 2 st, *2 dc into next st, 1 dc into each of next 2 st* REP from *TO* around, sl st into the first dc then cut the yarn. Total of 48 dc
Round 5 (Color B): Add new yarn anywhere you prefer, ch 1 and make 1 sc into the same st that you just added a new yarn, *sk 2 st, (3 dc, picot, 3 dc All into next st), sk 2 st, 1 sc into next st* REP from *TO* until you have 5 st left, sk 2 st, (3 dc, picot, 3 dc All into next st), sk 2 st, sl st into the first sc, cut the yarn and weave all the ends.
