Crochet a sweater: a cute, quick and easy pattern

Wanna know how to crochet a sweater super quick? Well, this is the crochet sweater pattern for you.

The secret? Big yarn and a big hook. It’s that simple!

But you don’t want to sacrifice the look of course, so there’s a sweet spot, and I think I’ve found it here.

I bought some of this Debbie Bliss Dulcie back when it was released. I did some testing on it and promotion for Lovecraft’s, and I just absolutely loved it. It wasn’t winter sweater season yet though, so I’ve been saving it just for this occasion.

My original idea was to crochet a sweater with a turtleneck, but after trying this one on as it is now, and asking for others opinions on YouTube, I decided I love it as is.

So here we have it. It’s a simple, easy two row repeat. It works up really quickly because I used an 8mm hook and a #5 bulky yarn.

That means if it’s your first sweater, you’ll finish it quickly and feel a big boost in confidence.

If you’re looking to make one as a gift, but you don’t have a ton of time, it’s a perfect pattern for you to finish quickly.

Of course, if you just love to crochet a sweater any time, for any reason like me, this is a great pattern for you still.

It’s also very easy to customize the length and fit. It doesn’t get much better than that to kick off sweater season.

I know a few of you are leaning towards a turtle neck, and before you bounce, be sure you check out my turtleneck sweater pattern. That’s right, I already have a pattern for one!

I want to take a minute to talk about this Debbie Bliss Dulcie yarn. It is everything comfy, cozy and soft. The color collection is gorgeous. It’s a dream yarn for any bulky projects. Highly recommend!

JOINING THE PIECES TOGETHER

Sew the back and front panels together

Take the back and front panels, place them with the correct side facing down, we’ll sew in the wrong side using the tails that we left earlier. Sew 15(17, 19, 21, 23, 25) st of the front and back panel together at the shoulder seam. Use which ever method you prefer to sew (Both sides are sewn the same). Check picture below

Sew the sleeves to the main panel

With your main panel correct side facing down. Place your sleeves correct side facing down and start sewing on the wrong side with your tail again. The shoulder seam of the main panel should be in the middle of the sleeves panel and even on both sides. ( Check picture below )

Sew the sweater together

Fold your sweater in half at the shoulder seam with the correct sides facing each other. Cut a new strand of yarn 60-70″ long, enough to sew the side and the sleeve. Start sewing from the bottom up to the side seam until you reach the armpit and continue sewing the sleeve side seam until you reach the end of the sleeve and then weave all the ends ( Check picture below )

Crochet Around The Neckline Edge

With your sweater right side facing out, we’ll crochet on the right side in the round. Add new yarn into the shoulder part, then ch 1 (do not count as a st), 1 sc into the same st, then make 1 sc into each st and each sp around. Cut the yarn and weave all the ends. Check picture below

If you’d like a bigger neckline edge, just keep make more rounds of sc.
